Remington Versamax Competition Tactical
I recently picked up a new Remington Versamax Competition Tactical 12 gauge. The Competition Tactical is built off of the tactical model, with some upgrades designed to appeal to 3 gun competitors. The gun boasts a 21" barrel, full length metal 8 round magazine, extended bolt handle, extended bolt release, extended safety, longer lifter and relief around the loading port.
Also included in the box are a total of four chokes, a 2 round carbon fiber magazine extension, butt pad extensions, a taller comb, front sight inserts, different rear height options, a plate for adjusting drop and comb, and an allen wrench for disassembling the gas system for cleaning.
From the box, this shotgun comes with a lot of extras that help you to set the gun up for the way that suits you best. This helps you to get the gun set up and going without having to spend a lot of extra money right at the start.
I plan on doing a review of the gun once I get a chance to run it for awhile. I took it up to the range last week and put about 100 rounds through it. I fired about 40 rounds of birdshot and the rest were slugs and buckshot. Previously I have fired buckshot and slugs primarily from a Remington 870. Compared to the pump action, the Versamax has considerably less recoil. Running through 100 rounds was not uncomfortable. Towards the end I was still firing the slugs and buckshot just as easy as the first few rounds.
While I don't consider that a very large sample size, the function was 100%, I did not have any malfunctions with the gun, everything ran through it perfectly. I'll try to test some other rounds through it as I continue to test it out.
